I had the extreme pleasure of hearing Shawn Jones perform at the local Lucille's at the Valencia Town Center. Oh my gosh, not only did the guitar make me want to dance, his voice make me want to sing along in harmony, but his shoes.....they were fabulous....I had just bought a pair of shoes from the same store. Amazing, walking and dancing is much more fun when your feet are happy. So I pulled myself away from Shawn's mesmerizing performance, always outstanding I must say, and he has a great smile. He sure does love to play that guitar, so I bought another of his CD's and devlivered it to the Shoe Store Owner, who immediately put it on in his store, and I was able to dance in my new shoes to Shawn Jones. I think that this must be heaven. If Shawn Jones would ever grace an old lady with Red Red, Really, Truly Red Hair, who has a weary heart, and a hopeful soul, I could sing in harmony with him, like I do in my car every day, or I could write him some very touching true life experience lyrics for his music. One saturday afternoon after spending the morning doing yardwork, I elected to spend the rest of my day watching television and hoisting the cold one's. That is until Shawn Jones insisted I go with him to Hollywood and see Robert Cray in concert. I was in "Lazy-idiot" mode and resisted until Shawn asked me point blank, "Do you want to watch people have fun on T.V. or do you want to have fun?". That's friendly persuasion and Shawn can sell an air conditioner to an eskimo. We got to L.A. in no time and had one of the best times ever. Robert Cray is a guitar legend and check him out in "ANIMAL HOUSE" with "Otis Day and the Knights". The man can swing! I realized Shawn needed to study the master's to be a great ax man himself. The man does his homework. The evening ended as we ducked into "The Hard Rock" for burgers and beer. As we entered the joint,the crawling strains of "Kashmir" by "The Zep" pounded the room as a vintage pink cadillac elevated in the center of the cafe slowly rotated around and around.

Unfortunately, that was while standing in line to recover our towed rental car. You were standing in line with your niece to retrieve her car. I must apologize for not making your acoustic show at Lucille's that you invited us to. We could only find one "Lucille's" in the phone book which was out in Brea. The four of us (Jacque, Sharon, Ken and I) drove out to Brea only to find out that you were not performing there. We really wanted to take in that show! the walkin dude March 17, 2007 I offer this; Digging up the past is just bustin' dust. But memories are like taking down from the shelf a much -loved book. I just wanted to sit on the couch and drink beer.I didn't want to be jostled one bit. But on a saturday night, Shawn Jones is like a runaway elephant, and also he's not very polite. Still, it's okay because he pays for everything and I'm talking about food, man. So, we were at the next zebra crossing when WAIT! Because of Shawn Jones, I got to meet one of my rock and roll gods. Now what I also remember about that day was that Shawn was more happy about my meeting Bruce Springsteen than I was. He knew he responsible for putting me in that impossible moment and career-wise, he should have taken advantage of it. Instead he stood off to the side and enjoyed it like a fan. He's no different than Bruce jumping the walls of Graceland.

Shawn I'm sure we don't know each other, but probably know people who know people...I was looking for someone I went to school with, so I googled his name and your website came up...after reading some of the entries I knew I was on to something...I graduated from Norco High School and was looking for Tim Teffeteller...but the T.T. I would also like to say we were very happy to hear that your brother got back from his tour of duty safely. I agree that the important thing is to bring our guys and girls back home, and the sooner the better. While I was totally echoing the cries from the audience of "F" Bush, the men and women over there are doing their duty the best they can, and the fact that many of them are doing so even though they don't agree with the politics, is to their credit. We very much respect you for going to Iraq to perform and helping to lighten their load a little bit. I hesitate to use the word "performance" because it implies an act presented to others that's apart from the performer. This was an experience about which I cannot remain silent. Emmbrook Sports and Social Club was an exceedingly unlikely place at which to enjoy such an event. Shawn Jones should not be contained within the confines it offered. He should be seen and heard by larger audiences, though the intimacy was especial on that occasion. He is just too good! Shawn Jones is an American guitarist and singer/songwriter who performs his own material, but also delivers personalised renditions of Covers. In my opinion, his versions of classics like ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ and ‘The Wind Cries Mary’ were better than any that I’ve ever heard – I had expected such hackneyed songs to impose their own limits, but Shawn is so gifted that they became, again, originals. I was struck by his treatment of the guitar itself: it was an absolute extension of his personality and physicality. The range of sounds he created on a semi-acoustic, fairly heavy-looking tool was awesome. Strings were routinely adjusted to complement the songs in progress – all effected with the ease and skill of someone who knows every part of this instrument. How could he play it as if it was a slick electric version! I heard him do it, I saw him do it, but I still don't quite believe he did what he did with just an acoustic guitar. Joyce and Jones may sound like a firm of country solicitors but they sparked each other perfectly and despite the obvious interest in the 'new kid,' the audience were also given a tantalising taste of Joyce's new album (as yet unfilled). On this evidence it will surely be the album that finally makes the world sit up and take notice. Where her debut Love Tone was autobiographical, these new songs are born out of sometimes-bitter experience. The beautiful Season For Being Alone needs little explanation. But its performance was as painfully personal as the title suggests. There is absolutely nothing protecting Billie Joyce from her audience, she is a feisty, gutsy singer but she reveals a heart and soul that have been hurt. Mississippi Romeo was an epitaph to a shattered love, before it hope, after it nothingness. You could hear the lifeblood of the relationship drain away as the song progressed. It is undoubtedly a gift to be able to express feelings as clearly as Billie Joyce can but it must also sometimes seem like a curse to be compelled to do it in front of strangers night after night. It's impossible to set the night out in any kind of chronological order. The set didn't follow the usual peaks and troughs of a performance, it became a night of highs that just kept getting higher. It would have been slightly naive not to expect spontaneous combustion with the amount of heat that Joyce and Jones were generating. The more established country/blues singers should look worriedly over their shoulders and start scouring the situations vacant columns. The torch wasn't passed to the new generation at the Meadow House, it was wrenched unceremoniously from their grasp by two of the brightest talents in the game

I would suggest that music fans run them a close second. At least those who managed to catch the current tour of Billie Joyce and Shawn Jones. It never ceases to be a pleasure and a privilege to watch artists do what they were born to do and Friday night in the Meadow House was both. On her return visit to the First and Last Venue (don't worry it's the same place, it's on the Scottish border and I mean ON the border), we were treated to a more restrained i.e. seated, Billie Joyce. Although when she seared her way through Love Alarm it wouldn't have mattered if she was seated, standing up or hanging from the rafters. I know it's supposed to be about the music, but this lady doesn't radiate sexuality she explodes with it. Lob in some steamy bottleneck and it's little wonder good men lose their heads over beautiful women.  I'm not convinced that Billie Joyce's choice of Peace, as her opening song, was a good one, after all that was the only thing she could guarantee we wouldn't get in a night of unstoppable country blues. After the Peace came the storm and it was time for Jones to take a bow. If his intention was to make an immediate impact then Lightning Strike Me Down, a song that appeared in the Russell Crowe film Mystery Alaska was the perfect vehicle-it appears old Russ can pick a good song as well as a good fight. I'm also happy to report that Waylon Jennings knew a great guitarist when he heard one. When he chose Jones to play lead for him he chose wisely, even in that first number it was obvious that Jones uses his guitar as far more than just accompaniment to his songs. He is an explorer, always looking over the horizon to see just how much he can extract from the instrument. As a guitarist Jones' performance reached its peak with a cover of Voodoo Chile. Now I bet you're thinking 'not another Hendrix cover'

Here's the rest of the review, begun previously: ... he squeezes out hot blues licks, often all in the same song, but he never upstages the song with his playing; he’s a pro. Shawn Jones is a genuine Southern rocker and a get-down, soulful singer of the first order, but he also knows poignancy, as he showed on a very personal song dedicated to his father, who passed away recently. He also was a champ at handling the audience, managing to quiet some noisy punters without offending; a rare feat. Billie Joyce is modern Nashville in the best way, writing meaningful songs from her own experience, singing with a voice that has surprising strength and a subtle country twang. More than anyone, she reminded me of the underrated Bobby Gentry, the female side of country soul. Billie has quality songs – Yotin Awasis, based on Indian ancestry, was beautiful; Peace was a hook-laden country rocker, Elixir and Love Alarm solid, hooky soul grooves. Both performers expressed the desire to return to the UK with their own bands – this was a bit of a scouting mission – and we certainly hope they do. Of the two, Billie Joyce would benefit most from letting the spolight linger, establishing an uninterrupted mood with her arrangements, her band, letting her voive and songs take us away. As for Shawn, give him a funky bass player, a tight drummer, a dance floor, and I’ll be there with all my friends. Charley Dunlap

Bath, UK Shawn Jones and Billie Joyce Porter Cellar Bar Thursday, August 12 The Porter Cellar Bar was as crowded as I’ve seen it except for those occasions when a slumming rock star drops in for a tour warmup; no slumming tonight, though there was a bit of rock and a bit of star in evidence with Shawn Jones and Billie Joyce. These are two American singer-songwriters and, in the case of Shawn Jones, one helluva guitar player. They are not a duo, but essentially solo performers who alternate songs through the night. Occasionally, Billie Joyce pitches in with a dulcet harmony to Shawn, but most of the crossover comes with Jones adding guitar to Billie’s songs and, believe me, no one is complaining. One punter leaned over and said “She’s a beautiful woman [she is] and I’ve just spent the whole night watching his hands!” From this you might think that guitar pyrotechnics stole the show but, no, not true. There was so much talent flowing from the little Porter stage that there was enough for three shows. Maybe that’s why the gig was so well attended – because it deserved to be. Hard to believe there’s something right in this world. Let’s start with Shawn Jones. The guy is a musician down to each and every molecule; his daddy was a country singer and guitarist, and Shawn was on the path by the time he was in grade school. So now, somewhere in his 30’s, he plays guitar like a master, sings like a country Ray Charles and writes songs with the expertise of a Brill Building veteran. If you want outside verifcation, he used to play in Waylon Jennings’ band and the late, mighty Waylon managed him in the mid-90s; that’s respect. He has also had a couple of his songs placed in TV shows, Dawson’s Creek being one; that’s business, but they wouldn’t be there if they weren’t good. Having said that, both "NATURAL SOUL" and recently "LITTLE DREAMS" are on my top 15 albums of all time list! They consistently make their way back into my CD rotation. You were great at Mittersill Resort in Fraconia, NH. I'm the big guy that was playing pool asking you to play Steam Roller. I bought your CD's and WOW! I had no idea what a great son writer you are. NO COVERS at all. Savin the best for last. Holy ****. Your drummer, base player, keyboards, Very tight. great quality recording as well. I talked to you after your gig and you said that you may be playing at The Swallows in San Juan Capistrano, CA and The Marine Room in Laguna Beach, CA at some point. I had seen Missiles of October at both places in December. I have told some friends out there that they have to check you out. I would realy like to hear your whole band live. I wouldn't be surprised to see you playing in concert some day double billing with some rock and roll superstars. Or maybe.
